Overview: Stellar Echo is a music rhythm game uses the Kinect motion peripheral, in which players control two sphere shaped sound collector representing player's hand to hit notes representing musical beats in the space.

Players need to wave their arms and move their hand to hit notes according to the rhythm, and get scores according to the timing they hit the note.

My Role: Game Designer & Gameplay Programmer

As a game designer, I analyzed several rhythm games on different platforms. Based from the research I did and the experience as a player, I found that doing actions along with the rhythm can let those who are sensitive to rhythm feel immersed. So, I set the experience goal that player can wave their arms according to the rhythm and feel immersed. I designed several prototypes with my teammates, and we did playtesting. Through playtesting we got the prototype of the present version of Stellar Echo. I desgined a level (song) according to the beat.

 

As a gameplay programmer, I used Unity and Kinect SDK to capture player's motion and coded down the logic of the game.
